Participation of the Region of North Aegean in the ERUA Summit 2025 & Winter School University of the Aegean, Lesvos | 3–7 November 2025

The University of the Aegean is hosting, from 3 to 7 November 2025, the fifth annual meeting of the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA), titled “Navigating the Edges”, on the island of Lesvos.

This year’s ERUA Summit (starting on 4 November) brings together students, academics, researchers, and social partners from across Europe to exchange ideas, foster collaborations, and shape the future of higher education through innovation, creativity, and reform-oriented approaches.

In parallel, the ERUA Winter School (beginning on 3 November) focuses on inclusive and interdisciplinary approaches to quality education, offering students from the alliance’s universities the opportunity to co-create new learning experiences and educational pathways.

On the second day of the Summit, on behalf of the Regional Governor of the North Aegean, Mr. Konstantinos Moutzouris, a greeting address was delivered by the Director of the Regional Development Fund of the North Aegean (RDFNA), Mr. Ioannis Kadis.

Mr. Kadis, conveying the Governor’s message, expressed the strong support of the Region of North Aegean and the Regional Development Fund for initiatives that strengthen the connection between the University of the Aegean, local communities, and regional development, emphasizing that:

“The Region of North Aegean actively supports the University of the Aegean and every initiative that highlights the island area as a hub of knowledge, innovation, and outward-looking growth. Events like the ERUA Summit enhance the international visibility of our region and promote collaboration between the academic community and local development.”

Collaboration between the University of the Aegean and the RDF of North Aegean within the GR digiGOV-innoHUB

The close cooperation between the University of the Aegean and the Regional Development Fund of the North Aegean is further strengthened through the RDF’s participation in the European Digital Innovation Hub for Digital Governance — GR digiGOV-innoHUB, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.

The collaboration between the RDF of the North Aegean and the University of the Aegean, within the framework of the co-organization of the Digital Hackathon 2025 #Hack4impact, serves as an innovative example of synergy among academic, regional, and technological actors. Through this partnership, the RDFNA and the University of the Aegean — a member of the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA) — join forces with GR digiGOV-innoHUB to promote the application of digital solutions, strengthen entrepreneurship, and foster sustainable regional development.

This joint initiative aims to create an innovation ecosystem that empowers young people, researchers, and businesses to develop practical applications with social and developmental impact, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the digital priorities of the North Aegean Region.

The collaboration seeks to advance digital transformation and the adoption of innovative technologies in the Region of North Aegean, leveraging tools such as artificial intelligence, smart data, and digital services.

Through this strategic partnership, the Regional Development Fund of the North Aegean and the University of the Aegean work together to support public organizations and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the region, aiming to develop pilot projects and digital transformation actions.

This initiative is part of the broader European digital development policies and represents a significant step forward in promoting digital innovation in the North Aegean.
