SMAPE Summer Academy in Belgium – Presentation of Results and New European Tools for Sustainable Mobility

Within the framework of the European project Shared Mobility Action Programs Exchange (SMAPE), this year’s Summer Academy was held in Brugge, with the participation of the Regional Development Fund of North Aegean, which played an active and substantial role in presenting the progress and results of the project to date.

During the sessions, the progress of SMAPE was presented. The project focuses on improving shared mobility policies, developing Mobility as a Service (MaaS) solutions, and enhancing the integration and optimization of different transport systems.

In addition, new approaches to European governance were presented, and good practices were exchanged by public authorities and municipalities in Belgium, with particular emphasis on the Municipality of Brugge. These practices include:

  • Development of shared mobility systems and their integration into public transport
  • Creation of “green points” and organized parking facilities
  • Deployment of electric buses in municipal transport networks
  • Smart energy management systems suitable for small and medium-sized cities

These examples represent integrated sustainable mobility policies with strong potential for adaptation in other European regions.

The participation of the Regional Development Fund of North Aegean was considered crucial, both for the well-documented presentation of the project’s results and for its contribution to policy development. Through this involvement, the North Aegean Region further strengthens its strategy in the field of sustainable mobility and takes another step towards the adoption of shared mobility practices in everyday life.

SMAPE contributes to transnational cooperation and knowledge transfer, making use of smart specialization strategies and targeted dissemination of results.
