The North Aegean Regional Development Fund was represented at the working meeting held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the Lesvos Chamber of Commerce, as part of the European program BIOFAIRNET — Bioeconomy and Circular Economy Fair Network. The program is funded by the Horizon Europe research and innovation framework and aims to support the transition to sustainable, fair, and circular economic models in the fields of agriculture and mining activities.
BIOFAIRNET is a digital collaborative platform that facilitates knowledge sharing, cooperative solution development, and the mapping of sustainable practices, with active involvement of relevant stakeholders. Through collective participation and dialogue, the project focuses on analyzing greenhouse gas “hotspots,” developing tools using cutting-edge technologies, and integrating social and economic strategies that enhance social justice and sustainability.
At the Lesvos meeting, the specific objectives and actions of BIOFAIRNET were discussed, including the development of innovative digital tools and a “Green Information Factory,” as well as participation in pilot projects in Greece for the sustainable utilization of agricultural residues and other applications.
The North Aegean Regional Development Fund emphasized the importance of involving local and regional authorities in European networks and initiatives, highlighting the role that island regions can play in promoting innovation, the circular economy, and sustainable development. Active participation in initiatives such as BIOFAIRNET underscores the Fund’s commitment to supporting the green transition and knowledge exchange at local, regional, and European levels.
The BIOFAIRNET program will run until 2028 and stands out for its collaborative and digital approach to supporting the circular bioeconomy, with particular emphasis on sustainability, innovation, and social inclusion.
