The transnational meeting of the ADAPTO project (Policies for Climate Change Adaptation) - Interreg Europe was successfully completed in Mytilene, Lesvos, hosted by the Regional Development Fund of the North Aegean Region. The meeting brought together partners from eight European regions, representatives of local authorities, non-governmental organizations, and experts in climate change adaptation, aiming to exchange knowledge and experiences to strengthen the resilience of local communities against the impacts of the climate crisis.
The ADAPTO project, co-funded by the Interreg Europe program, focuses on enhancing the capacity of regional and local authorities to design and implement effective climate change adaptation policies. Through partner collaboration and the transfer of good practices, the project seeks to improve multi-level governance and support evidence-based decision-making for local action plans.
During the meeting in Mytilene, the partners presented their regional progress, the results of vulnerability analyses, and the good practices identified so far. In parallel, technical sessions and experience-sharing workshops were held, emphasizing the project’s systemic approach to setting adaptation objectives and assessing the effectiveness of measures.
The meeting concluded with a field visit to areas of Lesvos facing significant challenges due to the impacts of climate change, such as coastal erosion and water resource management, highlighting the importance of local-level adaptation.
Overall, the ADAPTO project aims to create more climate-resilient regions across the European Union by strengthening cooperation and the exchange of know-how among public and private bodies, research institutions, and local communities.
